The work of the 17th century French military engineer Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban, now that it has no military function, can be considered purely for its aesthetic value. I have explored the relationship of his work to geometry and mathematics in Neuf Brisach: The Art of War and Thoughts on Making: Stereotomy at Besançon. In this series I celebrate its spatial qualities.
